  • District Judge Suspended for Fixing Her Own Parking Tickets is Allowed Back in Courtroom

    June 2013

    "Suspended District Judge Kelly S. Ballentine will be allowed to return to the bench, according to an order released Tuesday by the state Court of Judicial Discipline. Ballentine will be under probation through Dec. 31, 2014, according to the order. Ballentine was criminally charged last February with dismissing her own parking tickets in 2010 and 2011. She eventually was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine."

  • Costopoulos "Comfortable" with Facts in Racketeering and Fraud Case

    March 2011

    SCRANTON, Pa. – Attorney William C. Costopoulos filed a plea of "not guilty" on behalf of two Lackawanna County commissioners accused of 41 criminal counts ranging from racketeering to money laundering. At the start of the process, Costopoulos told one of his clients, former commissioner Robert Cordaro, he was "comfortable" with the facts in the case. "If we get a fair jury," Costopoulos said," we're fine."

  • Bigamy: Court Defines Where Crime Is

    HARRISBURG, Pa. – Attorney George H. Matangos convinced a three-court superior court panel that prosecutors seeking to bring bigamy charges should do so only if the second, offending marriage occurs within the state's borders. Discussing the case against his client, Hap Al Seiders, Matangos said, "His only violation here is an alleged second marriage while a divorce was years in the making."

  • Teacher Cleared in Videotape Case

    October 2010

    LANCASTER, Pa. – A Mount Joy elementary school teacher, arrested on charges of sexual child abuse after his estranged wife gave a videotape to authorities in the midst of a contentious divorce proceeding, tearfully hugged his attorney, Heidi F. Eakin, after being acquitted by a Lancaster County jury on all charges.

  • Law Firm Files Papers for Police to Return Cash Seized in Harrisburg Traffic Stop

    HARRISBURG, Pa. – Attorney David Foster of Costopoulos, Foster & Fields, filed a petition asking police to return $151,000 seized in a traffic stop. The petition alleges police "lacked any probable cause or reasonable suspicion to search for and seize" the cash.
